Now is the time of year when sorting carrots starts getting tricky. After sitting in storage for a couple months, some of the carrots have started to rot. On some carrots the rot is apparent at first glance. Other carrots develop spots of rot that easily go unseen without careful observation.
After finding carrots that with rot spots in several bags of carrots, I started getting frustrated. I was temped to just leave the rotten carrots in the bags. After all, the bags of carrots were still 99% good, even with the occasional problem carrot in them. Then I realized just how well these carrot bags portray me.
Even a tiny spot of rot left in a bag of carrots will turn into a fuzzy ball of gooey slime by the time these bags of carrots get to the customers. And even the tiniest character defect in me, if I never surrender it to God, will grow to the point where it fully destroys my character.
Thankfully God is really patient. When we let Him, He’ll work to remedy even the flaws that are woven the deepest into our characters.
1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Philippians 1:6 – He who has begun a good work in you will complete it unto the day of Jesus Christ.
1 Thessalonians 5:23,24 – Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.
